Ph.D. student in Computer Science
Department of Computer Science and Software Engineering, Faculty of Engineering, The University of Melbourne, Victoria 3010, Australia
Thesis topic: Power and performance efficient resource management in Cloud computing.
The work is part of the Green IT Project (http://www.gridbus.org/GreenIT/). The main idea of the work is to apply continuous consolidation of virtual machines (VMs) along with Dynamic Voltage and Frequency Scaling (DVFS) of CPU in virtualized data center in order to minimize power consumption while maintaining Quality of Service (QoS) defined by Service Level Agreements (SLA). The motivation of the work includes reduction of operational costs and carbon dioxide emissions, and improvement of system reliability. Apart from real experiments, the work will be validated by large-scale simulations. For this reason currently I am involved in development of a new version of CloudSim (a framework for simulation of Cloud computing infrastructures, http://www.gridbus.org/cloudsim/) and an extension for the framework allowing power-aware simulations.
The new criterion of a choice of cluster by the resources broker (the "mixed criterion") for the two-level parallel task scheduling algorithm was introduced, which achieves a valuable increase in efficiency of distribution relative to existing criteria. The improved two-level parallel task scheduling algorithm was used in load balancing and makespan reduction purposes.
Besides the research work, I am holding positions of a postgraduate seminar coordinator and a postgraduate representative in the department (http://www.cs.mu.oz.au/pgrad/about/index.html).
Honors: the study is supported by Endeavour International Postgraduate Research Scholarship (IPRS) and Melbourne International Research Scholarship (MIRS).
M.Sc. in Computer Science and Computer Engineering, Computer Networks and Telecommunications
Faculty of Automation and Computer Engineering, Novosibirsk State Technical University, 20 K. Marx Pr., Novosibirsk 630092, Russia
Master’s thesis title: Research and development of the algorithms and software for the remote execution of simulation programs on multicomputers.
The purpose of the master’s thesis was the development of a system enabling remote execution of simulation programs on three computer clusters of the Siberian Supercomputer Center. The process of execution is manageable via the web-interface.
A new criterion of cluster choice by the resource broker (the "mixed criterion") for the two-level parallel job scheduling algorithm was introduced, which allows achieving a valuable increase in efficiency of distribution relatively to the existing criteria. The improved two-level parallel job scheduling algorithm was applied in load balancing and makespan reduction purposes.
The average grade for the two years of master’s course is 4.81 out of 5. Grade percentage is 96%.
Honors: 5 out of 5 for the master’s thesis. The research work is a part of a project supported by Russian Foundation for Basic Research Grant N 05-07-98003 and Russian Academy of Sciences Grant N 15.2.
